Been away so long…
Forever really. That old need to support oneself and family weighed heavily after a year spent on a Book Tour. We went north, with readings scheduled in Metairie, Baton Rouge, LA, Greenville, NC, Annapolis, The 173rd reunion in Nashville,TN, DC w/ 173rd, Long Beach, NYC with my theatrical agent Pat Addiss, Amenia, NY, Southern CT, Holyoke, MA at Barnes & Noble, West Cornwall, CT—Mike and Me’s ground zero, Marlborough’s Historical Society. A TV taping there as well w/ WMCT. Boston, to Mass College of Art who wants my art archive. And following up in Worcester where the Telegram & Gazette did a major story.
Well, all that was great. We drove all the way to Maine, flew 3 times up for the taping, etc. Stayed in hotels. I thought perhaps the book sales would outweigh, but the cost was so much more. We are whittling down debt now. And ignoring promoting myself to the lengths proportionate to the trips. But I am with Covid now, so voila! Time to write.
I feel like a Tillie Olsen takeaway of a woman too occupied (stuck) with life to write. But write I must. I co-authored a book back in 2008-10, “Born Gifted,” that I entered in the Faulkner / Pirate’s Alley competition last month. Wrote it with Miriam Cora; it’s her story. So hopefully out soon. My first writing attempt, “Bequeathal,” I also entered as a Work in Progress. We’ll hear in a month. Next blog: Where the Book’s Been (M&M).
