Author

As my publication date approached—me as first-time author, and self-published, and me, exposing a huge part of me with afterwords and forewords included—I grew great trepidation. What did I say that might blow? up in my face? or just plain blow? Then last Tuesday, May 9, 2023 (where did I hear that one always comes out on a Tuesday?), and I saw the sales starting to tick upwards on Ingram’s site: 63 day one, 86 by day two, 179 day three!!!!! and today, 180. I don’t know how that happens but I think I’m on a roll. Except for today!

Dennis, my husband, Googled the expected sales for a first-time-indie author: 250 total average sales. First-time-publishing company represented author: 250 for the first year of the book, 3000 total. So what’s that say? There’s just so much I can do from this end. I designed a very dignified Press Kit. The kind I’d do for Perry Ellis or Steve Fabrikant, mailed 30 books and press kits out. Neatly wrapped.

Monday, the day before Pub Date, Dennis and I woke at 3:00 AM and drove down to the French Quarter, to Jackson Square where Hoda and Jenna were to appear live for the Today Show. 4:00, we were the first in line. I brought a book and a press kit, neatly wrapped. So at 6:30 AM when they were letting the assembled press in, I was able to slip my book to a PR person who said she’d get it to Jenna. I hope so. I really hope everyone gets to read 3003 Days of Mike & Me / And the Wars Between Us.

Anyway, I’m an author of four days.
